Boustead Properties Bhd recently partnered with Universiti Malaya (UM) to present the “Re-emerging Mutiara Damansara Central Business District Exhibition,” held from July 25 to 27 at The Curve shopping mall in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. This exhibition highlighted forward-thinking urban design concepts developed by UMโ€™s Master of Architecture Year 1 students, showcasing their research and design work from the 2023/2024 academic session.

Innovative Urban Design for Mutiara Damansara

The exhibition served as a platform for students to present their ideas on how to reinvigorate the Mutiara Damansara township. With over 20 years of history, Mutiara Damansara has evolved into one of the most sought-after addresses in Petaling Jaya. However, as Boustead Properties CEO Khairul Azizi Ismail noted, the township’s future lies in becoming an even greener and more sustainable urban environment.

โ€œMutiara Damansara is a flagship township development conceived more than 20 years ago and has since thrived as one of the most coveted addresses in Petaling Jaya. What is more exciting is Mutiara Damansaraโ€™s prospects as a reinvigorated, greener, and more sustainable township,โ€ said Khairul Azizi in a statement.

He praised the creativity of UM students, stating that their innovative and bold schemes have the potential to expand perspectives and inspire the integration of new concepts in future developments.

Bridging Academia and Industry

The exhibition emphasized the importance of continuous engagement between academia and industry, offering students a valuable opportunity to display their work to a broader audience and gain practical insights into real-world applications.

โ€œAt Universiti Malaya, we emphasize holistic architectural education that covers technical skills, sustainability, and cultural aspects. Our students learn to consider the social and environmental impacts of their designs while appreciating our shared heritage,โ€ said Faizul Azli Mohd Rahim, deputy dean of UMโ€™s Faculty of Built Environment.

He highlighted that Mutiara Damansara presents numerous opportunities for creating better spaces for the local community, and this exhibition could inspire future developments that are environmentally friendly and competitive.

Future Developments in Mutiara Damansara

In line with the exhibitionโ€™s theme of revitalization, Boustead Properties announced plans to launch “The Lines,” a transit-oriented mixed-use development, as a key component of the Mutiara Damansara revitalization plan. Slated for launch in the third quarter of this year, “The Lines” represents Boustead Properties’ commitment to integrating modern, sustainable living spaces within the township.

Although details of “The Lines” project have not been fully disclosed, the development is expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to transform Mutiara Damansara into a more vibrant, sustainable, and livable community.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Boustead Properties and Universiti Malaya underscores the importance of fostering innovation in urban development and highlights the role of academic-industry partnerships in shaping the future of Malaysiaโ€™s urban landscapes. The “Re-emerging Mutiara Damansara Central Business District Exhibition” not only showcased the talent of UMโ€™s architecture students but also set the stage for future developments that could redefine Mutiara Damansara as a model of sustainable urban living.
