UEM Sunrise Bhd’s (KL) Renewable Energy (RE) Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri, Johor, is gaining significant interest from China-based companies keen to set up manufacturing facilities in Malaysia. Companies such as China Machinery Engineering Wuxi (CMEC Wuxi) Co Ltd, Wuxi Longmax Technology Co Ltd (Longmax), Gotion, Hopewind, and Huasun have expressed interest in becoming RE off-takers in the park.
Key Investments and Developments
According to UEM Sunrise’s press statement issued on Thursday, CMEC Wuxi and Longmax are already in the process of establishing their local manufacturing operations within the RE Industrial Park. They are also setting up solar module and combiner box production facilities.
Meanwhile, UEM Sunrise is actively negotiating with Gotion, Hopewind, and Huasun to invest in the industrial park as RE off-takers. Together with ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd and CMEC, these five companies are expected to occupy a combined land size of 40 acres in the RE Industrial Park.
Agreement with ITRAMAS and CMEC
The announcement was made during an agreement exchange ceremony between UEM Sunrise, ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd, and CMEC. The parties had previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Beijing in May 2024 to establish RE facilities within the industrial park.
“We are committed to fostering an environment that promotes seamless growth, innovation, and excellence in local manufacturing. As we establish Gerbang Nusajaya as a renewable energy hub, UEM Sunrise looks forward to providing the infrastructure, resources, and bringing the collaborative spirit required to bring form to this vision in a responsible and sustainable manner,” said UEM Sunrise CEO Sufian Abdullah in the statement.
A Key Project Under Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap
The RE Industrial Park is part of the one gigawatt hybrid solar power plant project, a flagship initiative under Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). This project will be led by UEM Group through its subsidiary, UEM Lestra Bhd, and is expected to play a key role in fostering local and regional market growth. It will position Malaysia as a renewable energy hub in ASEAN, advancing the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.
This development is crucial for Malaysia’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.
