MCMC and Melaka Government Collaborate on Digital Transformation
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has formalized a strategic partnership with the Melaka government through the Kampung Digital Melaka (KDM) Initiative, marking a significant step toward digital transformation in Malaysia.
The initiative aims to equip all premises in Melaka with a complete and systematic address system, enhancing the efficiency of public services and modernizing infrastructure across the state.
Pioneering Malaysia’s First QR Code Address System
Under the KDM initiative, Melaka becomes the first state in Malaysia to introduce a QR code-based home address system. This groundbreaking effort targets 623 traditional villages in Melaka, streamlining access to public service data and enabling more accurate address identification.
Recognized by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and awarded a logo trademark, the initiative sets a benchmark for other states to adopt a digital village model.
Key Objectives of the Kampung Digital Initiative
- Comprehensive Address System
- The project aims to build a centralized address system through the National Address System (NAS), which will manage over 12 million addresses nationwide.
- Technical and Data Support
- MCMC will provide technical expertise and data sharing for the initiative’s successful implementation.
- Digital Infrastructure Development
- The initiative will catalyze the creation of sustainable technology and infrastructure, benefiting Melaka’s residents and businesses alike.
Nationwide Implications
The KDM initiative is expected to transform Melaka into a model for building a competitive and inclusive digital ecosystem, with the potential for replication in other states.
“This partnership represents a significant milestone in advancing Malaysia’s digital capabilities,” said MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, during the Document Exchange Ceremony held on Monday.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh also emphasized the importance of such collaborations in driving nationwide digital transformation.
Long-Term Vision: A Unified Address System
The National Address System (NAS) will serve as the single authoritative platform for address management across Malaysia, fostering seamless access to essential services and supporting digital growth.
“This initiative has the potential to establish Melaka as a leader in digital innovation,” said Datuk Azhar Arshad, Melaka State Secretary.
Looking Ahead
As Malaysia strives to develop a robust digital ecosystem, the Kampung Digital Melaka Initiative represents a promising leap toward achieving these goals. The collaboration between MCMC and the Melaka government underscores a shared commitment to modernizing public services, improving quality of life, and enhancing the nation’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
