Melaka is set to receive an influx of 200,000 international tourists starting this November, thanks to 52 scheduled voyages by Genting Dream Cruises along the Singapore-Melaka route. The luxury cruise line, operated by Resort World Cruises, will introduce a ‘2 Night Cruises’ package with Melaka as a new stopover destination.
Boosting Melaka’s Tourism Industry
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh highlighted the significance of this new venture during a press conference at his office in Seri Negeri. He noted that the inclusion of Melaka as a stopover destination on Genting Dream Cruises offers a tremendous opportunity to showcase the city’s rich heritage, culture, and attractions to a global audience.
“The presence of Genting Dream Cruises in Melaka with this 2 Night Cruises package is an excellent opportunity to promote Melaka as an international tourist destination,” said Ab Rauf. “During the 12 hours of docking in Melaka, I believe these visitors have plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of heritage, culture, food, and shopping experiences that are readily offered in Melaka.”
Significant Growth in Tourist Arrivals
Melaka’s tourism sector has been showing remarkable growth, with 8,714,386 tourists recorded until July 2024, marking an 84.55% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The Chief Minister attributed this surge to the diverse and attractive tourism products that have reinforced Melaka’s standing as a preferred tourist destination.
Also present at the press conference were Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Exco Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman and RW Cruises Pte Ltd president Michael Goh. The collaboration between the state and Resort World Cruises is expected to further elevate Melaka’s profile on the international tourism map.
A New Era for Melaka’s Tourism
The inclusion of Melaka in the Genting Dream Cruises itinerary aligns with the state’s broader strategy to attract international tourists and stimulate local economic growth. With the anticipated arrival of 200,000 international tourists, the local tourism and hospitality sectors are poised for significant economic benefits.
The introduction of the ‘2 Night Cruises’ package not only adds to Melaka’s appeal as a stopover destination but also offers cruise passengers a unique opportunity to explore the city’s historical sites, vibrant culture, and culinary delights.
Conclusion
Melaka’s partnership with Resort World Cruises is set to usher in a new era for the state’s tourism industry, bringing a substantial number of international visitors to experience its charm. As the city continues to develop its tourism infrastructure and offerings, it solidifies its position as one of Malaysia’s premier tourist destinations.
