Sarawak’s RM1.2 Billion Administrative Building Projects: A Boost to Public Service Efficiency
The Sarawak government has embarked on a significant initiative to modernize public service infrastructure with the approval of 46 new administrative building projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (MP12). These projects are part of a long-term strategy to enhance the efficiency and quality of government service delivery across the state.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Development
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki revealed that the total cost of these projects amounts to approximately RM1.2 billion. Among the planned projects are five Integrated Government Administration Centres (IAC) at the divisional level, designed to centralize various government functions and improve administrative efficiency.
“A total of seven projects are currently in various stages of implementation, including the Bintulu IAC, Limbang IAC, and Lawas IAC. Meanwhile, another 23 projects are still in the planning stage,” said Marzuki during the opening ceremony of the Sarikei IAC building.
Successful Completion of Key Projects
To date, 16 projects have been successfully completed in districts and sub-districts across Sarawak, including the newly inaugurated Sarikei IAC and the Serian IAC. The new 12-story Sarikei IAC building, constructed at a cost of RM147.25 million, now serves as a central hub for approximately 500 civil servants from multiple government departments and agencies.
This modern facility brings together 10 key government departments under one roof, including the:
-
Resident’s Office
-
District Office
-
Land and Survey Department
-
Public Works Department
-
Rural Water Supply Department
-
Sarawak Service Centre
-
Sarawak Government Counter
The building also incorporates digital service delivery points, adhering to the “Whole-of-Government” concept, which allows citizens to conduct transactions more efficiently and conveniently.
Modern Quarters for Civil Servants
Recognizing the importance of comfortable living conditions for civil servants, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced plans to build 3,672 modern apartment units at 67 locations throughout the state. These new quarters, designed as modern apartments, will be constructed with an allocation of RM3.55 billion.
“This development is a form of recognition and appreciation from the Sarawak government to civil servants as the backbone in the implementation of the state’s development agenda. Conducive workplace and residential facilities will enhance the quality of public service,” said Abang Johari.
The construction of modern residential units aims to improve the quality of life for civil servants, fostering productivity and well-being within the public sector.
One-Stop Customer-Centric Service Delivery
The Sarikei IAC exemplifies the Sarawak government’s commitment to improving service accessibility through a “One Stop Customer Centric Service Delivery” approach. This model focuses on:
-
Efficiency: Streamlining government transactions through integrated service counters.
-
Convenience: Offering various digital services on the ground floor for easy public access.
-
Integration: Housing multiple departments in one location to reduce administrative delays.
The Sarawak Service Centre and Sarawak Government Counter on the ground floor are designed to offer fast and efficient services, minimizing the time and effort required from citizens.
The Impact on Sarawak’s Development
This series of administrative building projects signifies more than just infrastructure growth; it represents a strategic effort to enhance public service delivery across Sarawak. By integrating government services and providing modern living conditions for civil servants, the state aims to improve operational efficiency while fostering a more supportive work environment.
These developments are also a testament to Sarawak’s commitment to economic growth and social stability. With modernized administrative centers and residential facilities, the government is paving the way for a more responsive and people-centric administration.
Final Thoughts
The Sarawak government’s RM1.2 billion investment in administrative infrastructure reflects a forward-thinking approach to public service modernization. As more projects are completed, the state is set to witness improved public service efficiency, enhanced civil servant welfare, and better accessibility for citizens.
