BlackBerry Launches APAC Cybersecurity Headquarters in Cyberjaya, Boosting Malaysia’s Tech Landscape

BlackBerry Ltd has officially made Cyberjaya, Selangor the hub for its Asia-Pacific (APAC) cybersecurity operations, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a leading technology and innovation centre. The new regional headquarters, which is already operational, represents a significant step in BlackBerry’s expansion strategy in APAC, offering proximity to key technology centres and government infrastructure.

Strategic Importance of Malaysia

Tash Stamatelos, BlackBerry’s vice president of cybersecurity for APAC, highlighted Malaysia’s strategic importance for the company. “Malaysia is a strategically important market for BlackBerry, and we’re proud to base our new APAC headquarters in Cyberjaya as part of our regional expansion plans,” said Stamatelos. This decision aligns with BlackBerry’s long-term commitment to supporting Malaysia’s digital growth and enhancing the regional cybersecurity ecosystem.

Partnership with the Malaysian Government

The expansion into Cyberjaya follows a landmark partnership between BlackBerry and the Malaysian government, first announced in November 2023. As a result of this collaboration, BlackBerry partnered with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to create the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCOE). This centre serves as a world-class training facility for developing the skills of Malaysia’s cybersecurity workforce.

Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil underscored the partnership’s significance, stating, “This will not only benefit Malaysia, but will enable the region to take advantage of the cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions offered by BlackBerry.”

A Hub of Diverse Expertise

The Cyberjaya headquarters features a multidisciplinary team comprising experts in sales, marketing, threat research, technical support, administration, and cybersecurity training. This setup positions BlackBerry to provide comprehensive support and innovative solutions that bolster both Malaysia’s and APAC’s digital security landscape.

Enhancing Malaysia’s Position in Cybersecurity

The establishment of BlackBerry’s APAC headquarters in Cyberjaya is a strategic boost to the region’s tech profile. It aligns with Malaysia’s goals of becoming a digital economy leader and showcases the country’s appeal to global tech giants looking for robust infrastructure and government collaboration.

As Cyberjaya continues to evolve as a premier technology hub, the presence of global players like BlackBerry further cements its role as a key driver in shaping Malaysia’s future in cybersecurity and digital innovation.
