Pantai Sentral Park Breaks Ground on Urban Park to Reconnect Nature, Community, and Heritage

In a move that redefines the urban-nature balance within Kuala Lumpur’s southern corridor, IJM Land Bhd and Amona Group have officially launched the Urban Park at Taman Rimba Bukit Kerinchi, the green centerpiece of the Pantai Sentral Park township.

The RM1 million project signifies the first key milestone in IJM Land’s long-term vision for an eco-conscious, walkable, and connected urban enclave nestled beside a preserved 200-acre forest. Slated for completion by year-end, the park is envisioned as both a biodiversity node and a community anchor, making it one of the most unique offerings in the Klang Valley’s township landscape.

🌳 A Ribbon of Life Linking Nature and Transit

At the heart of the park’s design is a feature dubbed the “Ribbon of Life” — a continuous, pedestrian-friendly pathway that winds through Pantai Sentral Park and links directly to the upcoming MRT3 station nearby.

According to Datuk Tony Ling, Chief Executive Officer of IJM Land:

“The Urban Park will connect two existing urban trails to the forest, providing rare interconnectivity within the city. It’s a bold step forward in urban design, blending lifestyle, mobility, and ecology.”

The walkable masterplan, introduced in the township’s revised blueprint, also promotes non-motorised transport, making it ideal for families, fitness enthusiasts, and daily commuters seeking greener modes of connectivity.

🌿 Local Biodiversity and Community Wellness at Its Core

Unlike typical ornamental landscaping, the Urban Park has been designed with ecological intent, featuring:

  • Over 30 species of native plants and trees

  • Pollinator gardens to support bees and butterflies

  • Bougainvilleas instead of foreign flora like sakura

  • Carefully chosen local shrubs and climbers to support bird and insect life

The landscaping not only enhances the aesthetic experience, but also nurtures urban biodiversity, making the park an evolving ecosystem within the city.

“This is not just a green space,” Ling added. “It’s a dynamic living environment with the ability to host wellness classes, family activities, and even education programs in collaboration with local schools.”

🏞️ A Living Park Honouring Local Heritage

In a culturally resonant moment during the ceremony, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, a native of the area, urged that the Kampung Kerinchi legacy be reflected in the park’s layout.

“This land once provided bamboo that residents harvested and sold. Let’s honour that by identifying the bamboo species they used and integrate it into the landscape,” he said.

Fahmi further encouraged landscape architects and developers to engage with residents and local historians to ensure the park reflects both natural and cultural narratives of the area.

This approach aligns with a broader movement in urban planning — to restore place-based identities while pushing for sustainable development.

🧱 The Park as an Urban Social Hub

Pantai Sentral Park’s Urban Park is envisioned not merely as a green lung, but as a centralised community space with multiple functionalities. Highlights include:

  • Sculptural installations showcasing local stories

  • Layered pathways with seating zones for families and seniors

  • Flexible event lawns for public yoga, cultural showcases, and workshops

  • Night lighting for safe evening strolls and visual vibrancy

IJM Land believes that “townships aren’t built with bricks alone,” but with shared spaces that facilitate human connection and foster civic pride.

🏙️ Pantai Sentral Park: KL’s First Urban Forest Township

The Urban Park is the latest in a series of strategic steps by IJM Land to fulfill its vision for Pantai Sentral Park, positioned as Kuala Lumpur’s first urban forest township.

The 58-acre development is located just minutes from Bangsar South and Mid Valley, combining:

  • Integrated vertical residences

  • Sustainable office towers

  • Proximity to natural reserves

  • Direct expressway and public transport links

The ongoing collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will eventually extend park upgrades into the adjacent 200-acre forest, further solidifying Pantai Sentral Park as a green-forward living destination.
