MaiStorage Launches in Selangor to Spearhead Malaysia’s AI Revolution
K.S. Pua, the Malaysia-born co-founder of Phison, has announced an ambitious new venture, Malaysia AI Storage (MaiStorage), which is set to become a cornerstone in Malaysia’s tech industry. Unveiled during the first day of the KL20 Summit, this initiative is poised to significantly enhance Malaysia’s capabilities in generative AI and other advanced technologies.
A Strategic Alliance with Phison and Mimos
MaiStorage is not starting from scratch; it inherits a robust legacy from Phison, the company known for inventing the USB flash drive. Phison will transfer technology valued at over RM1 billion to MaiStorage, including expertise in data centre storage, electric vehicle storage, and generative AI storage. This transfer, conducted in partnership with Mimos, is expected to position MaiStorage as a leader in these critical sectors.
Focused on Education and Development
Located in the upcoming Malaysia Semiconductor Accelerator & IC Design Park: Selangor Hub in Puchong, MaiStorage aims to begin operations soon, with the park itself slated to open this July. Interestingly, MaiStorage plans to recruit primarily undergraduate and graduate students, offering them a unique opportunity to become storage technology experts through an intensive 18-month training program utilizing Phison’s extensive knowledge.
K.S. Pua is optimistic about the future of these young professionals, stating, “We are confident that they can independently design integrated circuits right here in Malaysia after completing their training.” The initiative is expected to open 300 to 500 positions, providing substantial employment and learning opportunities in the region.
Competitive Salaries and Local Opportunities
In a move to attract top talent, MaiStorage has set competitive salary levels: undergraduates starting at more than RM6,000 per month and graduates at RM8,000. These attractive pay scales reflect the company’s commitment to fostering a highly skilled workforce capable of driving technological innovation locally.
