Construction and engineering group Binastra Corporation Bhd (KL:BNASTRA) has secured a new RM188.5 million contract for the mechanical and electrical (M&E) fit-out of a data centre project in Cyberjaya, Selangor — further cementing its position as a key player in Malaysia’s fast-expanding digital infrastructure sector.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Binastra said the scope of work includes the M&E fit-out, as well as the construction of a guard house and refuse room, for a data centre facility in Cyberjaya.

The contract is expected to be completed within four months from the confirmed date of site possession, underscoring the urgency and scale of Malaysia’s ongoing data centre rollout.

1. Supporting Malaysia’s Digital Infrastructure Growth

The latest win highlights Binastra’s growing participation in the data centre construction segment, a sector witnessing strong demand from cloud service providers, technology multinationals, and enterprise users investing in Malaysia’s digital transformation.

“We are honoured by the continued trust and confidence from our client, which reaffirms Binastra’s growing reputation in supporting Malaysia’s digital infrastructure ecosystem,” said Datuk Jackson Tan Kak Seng, Managing Director of Binastra Corporation Bhd.

This project will contribute to Malaysia’s ambitions under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) and the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), which identify data centre capacity and connectivity as critical enablers for national competitiveness.

Cyberjaya, already home to some of Malaysia’s largest data facilities, continues to strengthen its position as the country’s main digital hub — attracting hyperscale and colocation investments from local and international players such as AIMS Data Centre, YTL, Keppel DC, Bridge Data Centres, and Vantage Data Centers.

2. Expanding Data Centre Portfolio

Binastra’s new contract represents its fifth data centre-related project, bringing the total value of its data centre segment to RM1.4 billion.

The company is currently completing the core and shell works for a six-storey AIMS Data Centre in Cyberjaya — one of the largest upcoming facilities in the region.

The latest job win extends Binastra’s role in the fit-out phase, showcasing its expertise in precision-engineering, high-voltage systems, and critical facility integration — areas vital for mission-critical, high-availability infrastructure.

With this addition, Binastra has now secured RM2.0 billion worth of new contracts in 2025 alone, increasing its total order book to RM4.7 billion.

This robust pipeline provides strong earnings visibility and underscores the company’s reputation as a reliable contractor for data centre, commercial, and industrial projects.

3. Cyberjaya’s Data Centre Boom

Cyberjaya’s data centre market is among the most active in Southeast Asia, driven by Malaysia’s strategic advantages in land availability, power infrastructure, and connectivity to Singapore’s data ecosystem.

Following Singapore’s data centre moratorium in recent years, Malaysia — particularly Cyberjaya, Johor, and Bukit Jalil — has become a preferred destination for regional cloud and enterprise expansions.

Industry analysts estimate that Malaysia’s total data centre capacity will exceed 1,200MW by 2030, with Cyberjaya accounting for more than 40% of active and planned facilities.

Developers and contractors like Binastra stand to benefit significantly from this pipeline, especially as hyperscale clients demand faster project delivery to meet growing cloud adoption and AI workloads.

4. Driving Long-Term Growth

For Binastra, data centre construction has evolved from a niche opportunity into a core business pillar, aligning with Malaysia’s transition toward a digital-first, service-driven economy.

The company’s diversification into data infrastructure complements its existing strengths in residential and commercial property construction, enabling it to tap into higher-margin, technology-driven projects.

“With more multinationals and tech firms expanding in Malaysia, we see sustained momentum in this segment. Our integrated capabilities position us well to deliver high-quality, time-sensitive projects,” said Tan.

Analysts note that Binastra’s strong track record, rapid project execution, and high-value client base could make it one of the leading local contractors in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure chain.

5. Outlook: A Growing Role in the Digital Economy

The latest contract reinforces Malaysia’s role as an emerging data centre hub in Asia Pacific, benefiting from strong government support, renewable energy policies, and bilateral trade synergies with Singapore.

For Binastra, the RM188.5 million project further enhances its credentials in mission-critical facility construction and reflects growing investor confidence in homegrown engineering expertise.

With data centre demand showing no signs of slowing, the company’s RM4.7 billion order book provides a stable foundation for revenue growth through 2026.
