Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has embarked on a significant journey to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), demonstrating Sarawak’s commitment to addressing climate challenges on the global stage.
As part of his COP28 agenda, Premier Abang Johari is scheduled to witness a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between InvestSarawak and Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd. This collaborative agreement signifies a critical partnership in advancing Sarawak’s green economy initiatives, encompassing various key areas.
“The collaboration includes industry transformation, energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS), decarbonisation, as well as industrial park development and management,” a statement by the Sarawak government’s official Facebook page, Sarawakku, highlighted.
Furthermore, Premier Abang Johari has planned a meeting with Mubadala, a prominent sovereign investment company headquartered in Abu Dhabi. The discussions aim to explore potential collaborations and investments within the energy transition sector, reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable energy practices and future-oriented initiatives.
Another notable MOU signing is set to take place between Masdar, a leading global commercial enterprise in renewable energy and clean technologies from Qatar, and Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB). This agreement underscores a shared dedication to sustainable energy practices and underscores the potential for strategic partnerships in advancing clean and renewable energy solutions.
Continuing his mission to promote Sarawak’s green economy initiatives, Premier Abang Johari and his delegation are scheduled to depart for London on Thursday (Dec 7). During their time in London, they will engage in further discussions on business investment and networking programs. This engagement underscores Sarawak’s determination to expand international partnerships and attract investments for sustainable development.
