Japanese household items supplier Daiso is set to make a significant investment of RM1 billion in the construction of its largest Global Distribution Centre (GDC) in Port Klang, Selangor. This substantial move comes as part of Daiso’s commitment to expanding its logistics operations and product distribution network globally.

The GDC in Port Klang will mark Daiso’s second international hub, following the success of its first hub in China. It is designed to function as a pivotal global distribution center, facilitating the movement of Daiso products from Japan and China to destinations across 22 countries in Asia and the Middle East.

Daiso Malaysia Group Sdn Bhd’s Chairman, Tan Sri Khairul Adib Abd Rahman, shared details of the project at the signing ceremony for a collaborative agreement to develop the GDC. He highlighted that the GDC, spanning an impressive 130,000 square feet, is slated to commence development in May 2024, with an expected completion date in May 2026. The center is scheduled to be fully operational by January 2027.

The collaboration for this ambitious project involves Daiso Malaysia and Kajima-Suncon, a joint venture led by Kajima (Malaysia) Sdn Bdn and Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd. This partnership underscores Daiso’s commitment to expand its product availability and distribution reach throughout the region.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari expressed his gratitude that Daiso chose Selangor for this significant high-value investment. He acknowledged that Selangor has seen the establishment of other major global logistics hubs in recent years, such as Lazada and Shopee. Still, Daiso’s GDC stands out as the largest hub for Daiso worldwide, marking a milestone in the region’s logistics landscape.

Daiso’s investment in the Port Klang GDC not only reflects the company’s commitment to the region but also signifies the growing importance of Malaysia as a strategic logistics and distribution hub within Asia and the Middle East.

This development is expected to bolster trade and distribution activities in the region, making Daiso products even more accessible to consumers across a vast international market.
