Starting from October 1, 2024, Singapore-registered vehicles entering Johor without a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) can continue to do so as usual, but enforcement of the VEP requirement will begin in phases, according to the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Phased Implementation of VEP
In the first phase, Singaporean vehicles without the required RFID VEP tags can still enter Malaysia without any penalties. However, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, director-general of JPJ, confirmed that drivers will be reminded at entry points to register, install, and activate the VEP RFID tag immediately.
“Private vehicle owners from Singapore who do not have the RFID VEP tag will receive warning notices before leaving Malaysia,” said Aedy. This is part of the effort to educate and ensure compliance rather than penalize Singaporean drivers during the initial enforcement phase.
How to Register and Install VEP RFID Tags
To facilitate the VEP registration process, Singaporean drivers can obtain their RFID VEP tags at the following centres:
- TCSens Office, Danga Bay, Johor Baru
- JPJ Southern Region Academy, Johor Baru
- JPJ Johor Office, Taman Daya, Johor Baru
- VEP Collection Centre, Woodlands
Current Status of VEP Registration
As of September 25, 2024, a total of 62,635 Singaporean vehicles have successfully activated their RFID VEP tags, indicating significant progress in the VEP registration process.
This initiative aims to better regulate the entry of foreign vehicles into Malaysia, particularly in Johor, where there is a high volume of traffic from Singapore. Vehicle owners are encouraged to complete their VEP registration at their earliest convenience to avoid delays or potential penalties in the future phases of enforcement.
